Fireworks Banned in Eastland County & Palo Pinto County

Monday, June 27th, Eastland County Commissioners Court adopted an emergency disaster declaration due to the extremely dry conditions and voted unanimously to ban all fireworks sales and any use of fireworks in the unincorporated area of Eastland County. This includes commercial/professional fireworks shows including La Mancha’s annual fireworks show which was planned for July 4th.

The county will be encouraging any cities that have planned fireworks shows to cancel them. The City of Cisco has canceled its fireworks show (see link below to find out what celebratory activities will still be going on). Rising Star is holding off on making a decision on their fireworks show (see below).

This ban is for 60 hours, but Governor Abbott can extend that ban if requested. Judge Fields is sending that request to the governor today and is expecting the request to be granted with an extension to go through July 4th. (Update: Governor Abbott did grant the extension of the ban through July 5, 2022)

Commissioners also voted to reinstate the burn ban for another 90 days.

Fireworks are also prohibited within the city limits of all Eastland County cities.

On Friday, July 1st the Palo Pinto County Commissioners’ adopted a disaster declaration that bans the use and sales of fireworks in Palo Pinto County for 60 hours. All Palo Pinto County cities also prohibit the use of fireworks inside their city limits.

Response from Governor Greg Abbott concerning Eastland County’s request for an extension on their ban:

Dear Judge Fields: The Texas Division of Emergency Management is in receipt of your request for an extension under Chapter 418.108 (i) of the Texas Government Code. After a review of the Texas A&M Forest Service Wildfire Danger Assessment, Eastland County meets the necessary thresholds to warrant a fireworks restriction that exceeds the restriction authorized by Local Government Code Sec. 352.051. Your request for an extension has been approved by the Office of the Governor and is hereby granted.”
