Strawn Attends Regional Economic Development Meeting in San Saba

Attendees TMCN

Strawn City Secretary/EDC Director Danny Miller and Chamber Director Chuck Sowders attended a meeting of the Texas Midwest Economic Development Alliance last week at the San Saba Civic Center. Economic development professionals from the Texas Midwest region met for a program entitled “Economic Development – Corporations, Methods & Projects”. The meeting concluded with an enlightening tour of the downtown San Saba business district success stories.

San Saba EDC Executive Director Tony Guidroz welcomed attendees to San Saba and served as a presenter and host for the meeting. Justin Jaworski, Executive Director of the Abilene Industrial Foundation, presented an “Introduction to Economic Development” which included the primary goals and the role of an economic development corporation. Ken Becker, Executive Director of the Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development, facilitated an engaging and informative discussion with a panel of directors from various corporation types including Guy Andrews, Executive Director of the Brownwood Municipal Development District (MDD); Kim Little, Executive Director of the Coleman Economic Development Corporation (Type A&B); and Tony Guidroz, Executive Director of the San Saba Economic Development Corporation (Type B). The panelists shared the structure of their boards, the types of projects they are engaged in, and community success stories. The morning session concluded with a question and answer period with attendees. Lunch was catered by Pepperbelly’s Mexican Restaurant.

The meeting was open to members and guests of the Texas Midwest Economic Development Alliance. The Alliance was formed in 1999 to provide educational and networking support to TMCN cities actively engaged in economic development.

The E.D. Alliance is one of several programs conducted by Texas Midwest Community Network (TMCN), an organization of “communities working together to accomplish what one community cannot do alone.” The regional organization sponsors a number of networking events during the year as well as projects to market the region for business and tourism development.
