Mary’s Café to be featured on The Texas Bucket List

STRAWN, TX— In small town Strawn, sits a little café with a big reputation for legendary chicken fried steak. Mary’s Café is owned by Mary Tretter, the lady behind the massive meals that bring in big crowds. The café serves over 50,000 pounds of chicken fried steak every year and over 200,000 pounds of potatoes! Tune in the weekend of November 2-3 as host, Shane McAuliffe, takes a trip to Strawn to try some of Mary’s Café’s legendary eats.

Mary scored her first job at one of the only two restaurants in Strawn after the 8th grade. In 1984, she switched over to the other restaurant known as the Polka Dot. By 1986, she owned the place and changed the named to Mary’s Café. Since then, she continues to work along side her employees and can often be found cover in flour, frying up delicious food!
Mary’s Café is featured alongside two other stops—Cave Without A Name in Boerne, TX and Oliver Saddle Shop, Amarillo TX.

Have only been once. The food was good but our food did not all come out together. It came out in spurts. There was 7 of us and i think it took like 10 trips to our table before we all got our meals completed. And never got drink refills.

Hard to eat another one after you eat at Mary’s. All beef not a lot of crust, grill fried in butter. You always see Mary working right along with her employees. Will be there Tuesday.

Best chicken fried steak. People come from all over to eat at Mary’s Cafe. Never have been disappointed, a place this good has a lot of customers so if you don’t make reservations then you better expect the wait.

Mary’s is not the same as it once was, It is expensive and the quality is lacking. Want a good CFS? Go to New York Hill Restaurant, in Mingus,Tx, just a few miles from Mary’s.
