Steve Gerdes, President of the Eastland County Water Supply district released the following information about the Lake Leon Dam project and the project to repair the “slope failure” that occurred earlier this year. At this time there is no projected date for the reopening of FM 2461 at the dam.
Notice to proceed on Phase 2 of the FEMA HMGP dam project was issued in August of 2018. Phase 2 of the project includes final analysis and design of the downstream dam slope stability improvements and auxiliary spillway improvements, relocation design and coordination of existing utilities, final coordination with TxDOT for work on FM 2461, and preparation of construction drawings, specifications, and an updated construction cost estimate. Phase 2 will also include bidding and administration of the project construction. Construction is anticipated to start the summer of 2019.
In addition to the larger FEMA HMGP project, the District has awarded construction contracts to begin repair of the slope failure on the upstream side of the dam that occurred earlier this spring. The project will stabilize and restore the slope of the affected area of the dam to its original condition by installing a section of “Sheet Pile Wall and Select Fill Dirt”. Construction is planned to start in January 2019.
