Jerry Dean Luster went home to be with his Savior on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 2 p.m. The Lord poured 72 years 6 months and 10 days into his cup.
Jerry was born at home in Scranton, Texas on February 4, 1947. He accepted Jesus as a young man and was later baptized in a nearby stock tank. He moved to Tulia for high school and after graduating enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country four years before being honorably discharged as a USAF Sergeant in 1972. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts from West Texas University where he met and fell in love with his beautiful wife of 36 years, Barbara Slover. They married on December 29, 1973, and she proceeded him in death on September 20, 2010.
Jerry was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He worked in sales and was an active member of his local church body. He loved fishing, western swing and gospel music, and spending time with his family.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Wilburn and Ladell Luster.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisha Ruda and husband, Stan, of Aledo, Texas; Amanda Schaefer and husband, David, of Childress, Texas; and LaLaneya O’Farrell of Burlington, Vermont. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Liberty, Gracelyn, and Lincon Ruda of Aledo, Texas; Ryker, Liesel, Rhett, and Rayden Schaefer of Childress, Texas; Savanah and Cecilia LeDuc of Burlington, Vermont. He is also survived by his two sisters, Lavada Starr, of Cisco, Texas, and Letha Barnthouse of Lee Summit, Missouri.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 18, 2019 from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Cisco, Texas.
Services will be Sunday, August 18, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Cisco with interment to follow at Scranton Cemetery.
The family asks in lieu of flowers donations be made in Jerry’s memory to The Open Door Pregnancy and Family Resource Center in Cisco, Texas.
