First Baptist Church Gordon’s Reaction to Obamacare

FBC, Gordon strongly opposes the “Affordable Care Act” as it pertains to religious organizations. This act stipulates that group or individual health insurance coverage shall be offered and all FDA-approved contraceptive methods shall be covered, including Ella-Preven and Plan B (morning-after) pills.  Some of these contraceptive procedures violate our religious beliefs. Churches and ministers are excluded, but not hospitals, charities and universities such as our Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. This is a violation of our 1st Amendment rights.

Based on our belief in the Bible and our understanding of the science behind the pill, we believe the “morning-after” pill, when preventing the implantation of a fertilized egg, leads to the destruction of a conceived human life.  The Bible consistently identifies conception as the beginning of life.  Therefore, using the pill constitutes murder, and violates our consciences, as well as the 6th Commandment (Exodus 20:13).  If an institution provides this pill to its employee, the institution has condoned and aided in this murder.  The First Baptist Church of Gordon opposes this type of elective abortion.  Although we may have many other conscientious objections to Obamacare, we stand with the Catholic Church’s opposition to oppose the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act for requiring religious institutions to provide this pill for its employees.  We believe that such a requirement prohibits the free practice of our religion, in violation of the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Psalm 139:13-16 (NASB) 13 For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth; 16 Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them.
