Thursday, May 9th, the home of Rodney and Ramona May was destroyed by fire along with all their possessions. Ramona was able to get their son, Bryce, out of the fire uninjured, but Ramona sustained 2nd and 3rd degree burns on about 38% of her body. She faces surgery and a long road to recovery but is expected to make a full recovery.
Rodney has been manager of Higginbotham Brothers Lumberyard in Eastland for many years. Both he and Ramona grew up in Eastland and now the community has come together to help them through this disaster.
A fundraising luncheon is planned for Wednesday, May 15th from 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Lumber Yard Event Center in Eastland. One of Ramona’s classmate and family friend, Thane Arther, has set up a Facebook Donation Page for the family. Originally setting the goal at $1,000 and thinking that was a large goal, donations have come in so strong that he’s had to increase the goal several times. At this time it is set at a $15,000 goal with $13,710 donated so far.
