Eastland County Mask Requirement Update

Eastland County Judge Rex Fields sent out the following update on the mask requirements due to the surge in positive COVID cases in Eastland County:

I have now been informed by the State of Texas about the process to reinstate our exemption to wearing masks as required by Governor Abbott’sExecutive Order GA-29. The bottom line is that the number of active COVID cases must remain under 20 for thirty consecutive days. Yesterday and this morning, I checked the Texas Dept. of State Health Services (DSHS) for their official number of cases. Both days had 17 active cases listed. I will request the reinstatement of the exemption just as soon as I can. We will have to be under 20 active cases for 30 consecutive days before the state will consider the exemption.

Please review GA-29 for compliance at this link https://gov.texas.gov/uploads/files/press/EO-GA-29-use-of-face-coverings-during-COVID-19-IMAGE-07-02-2020.pdf

Below is the email that I received from DSHS. If you have questions or comments, I suggest that you individually contact them at this email address: coronavirus@dshs.texas.gov.

Thank you,Rex Fields, Eastland County Judge

Good morning Judge Fields,

Thank you for contacting the Texas Department of State Health Services regarding Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). Texas DSHS will continue to track Eastland County active cases for TDEM. Once the county stays under 20 active cases for 30 consecutive days, the county can request and TDEM can consider reinstating the exemption.
