Eastland County COVID-19 Update, October 1, 2020

The COVID case report for October 1, 2020 is as follows:

  1. Number of positive cases since March 2020: 268
  2. Number of active cases still in quarantine: 38
  3. Number of deaths from COVID: 1

There have been several new cases in one day (October 1). We continue to ask everyone to use caution, wash your hands, wear face coverings, and keep the six-foot distance. There have already been positive Influenza cases reported. It is important to get your Flu Vaccine soon

There has been concern about different reports on the deaths due to COVID in Eastland County. I receive a report each day during the work week from the Department of State Health Services., they report no deaths. I have record of only one death. I will post only the positive cases and the active cases, as well as deaths that I receive from DSHS as well as from the local health care facilities (EMH and the Eastland County Clinics).

Dr. DeLuca does not receive any reports on deaths from DSHS. The one death he lists in his numbers had been a nurse in the area. I was able to figure out who she was by looking at obits that matched the death date on the DSHS site. Then I searched that person on Facebook and found her page which had comments about her underlying conditions and her death due to COVID.

DSHS is reporting 4 deaths on their website. Sounds like the full stats aren’t being reported.
