The report as of November 5, 2020 for COVID exams is as follows:
- Number of confirmed positives: 392
- Number of active COVID cases still in quarantine: 43
- Number of deaths due to COVID: 2
- Number of probable cases: 106 (see explanation)
Recently the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) has been listing increasing numbers of probable cases. This number has been on the rise. I inquired from our regional health office what constituted probable COVID cases. Per guidelines from DSHS, a probable case is an individual who has tested positive by the rapid antigen test rather than the PCR test. We have seen a rise in the probable cases since most of the clinics in Eastland utilize the antigen test. Generally, this test is only utilized for individuals with symptoms. Probable cases still follow all the quarantine guidelines and they are included in the number of isolation cases.
