Eastland County COVID-19 Update January 7th

The following is the report for Eastland County up to January 7th:

  1. Total positive cases of COVID since March: 893
  2. Total probable cases: 249
  3. Total active cases still in quarantine: 78

The number of active cases continues to remain high. As we anticipate the COVID vaccine becoming more available, it is still very important to practice good public health. Please wear your face coverings when in public, remain at the six-foot distance and sanitize your hands. Avoid large crowds.

Eastland County is now vaccinating the first groups (1a). This includes the health care workers, nursing home residents, EMS and first responders, home health nurses, and essential county and city workers. We are anticipating another shipment in the next few weeks, but there is no set date. If you are in the group 1b (see the website below for details), then you can call 254-629-5001 and leave your name and number. Eastland Memorial Hospital is working diligently to setup a vaccination site and to coordinate the process of administering the vaccines.

Please be cautious. There has certainly been an increase in cases, hospitalizations, and deaths due to COVID. This past week four individuals from Eastland have died from COVID. Eastland Memorial Hospital has several admissions for COVID and hospitals in Abilene have no available ICU beds. Transferring patients to higher levels of care is very difficult. Critical patients are being transported hours to hospitals that have an open bed.

Please wear your masks and be very cautious.
