Douglas Dunham Thompson, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Cisco Nursing & Rehab Center.

Doug was born on July 16, 1939, in Auburn, New York to Eugene and Dorothy Thompson. In 1951, his family relocated to Dallas, Texas. Doug graduated from North Dallas High School in 1957 and continued his education at Southern Methodist University, where he earned scholarships in both basketball and baseball and a master’s degree. His passion for the game led to a lifelong and successful career in coaching, where he inspired countless young athletes with his leadership and enthusiasm.

In 1963, Doug met the love of his life, Dyanne, and just two weeks later, they were married—a bond that grew over 60 years together.

Doug was the proud father of two sons, Brad and Bryan, who both inherited his love of sports. He was known affectionately as “Pika” and Grandpa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Doug is survived by son Brad and his wife Debbie, grandsons Taylor and Tanner, Tanner’s wife Susan, and great-grandchild Palmer; son Bryan and his wife Tesa, grandchild Kelsi and her husband Mikel Filewood, and great-grandchild Isla; and grandchild Katie, her husband Austen Lowery, and great-grandchild Easton and grandchildren Kennedy and Blaine Foster.

A celebration of Doug’s life will be held on Wednesday, February 11th at 11:00 am at Murray Cemetery near Carbon, Texas.
