With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Patsy Vilene Armstrong. She left this world peacefully in her sleep on May 3rd, 2025 at The Woodlands Assisted Living Center in Eastland, Texas at the age of 89.
She was born on April 14th 1936 in Childress, Texas to Carroll and Viola Estellene Horton. Vilene married Vernon Armstrong on April 23rd 1954. Together they built a life that had them living from West Texas all the way to East Texas and back and forth.
Vilene was a wonderful cook/baker and worked for years at the McCamey Hospital, satisfying the appetites of hungry patients and staff. When Vernon retired, they made their way to Eastland and lived there the rest of their lives, taking care of each other. Vilene was a loving Mother to Johnny Wayne Armstrong and devoted Grandma to Stefanie and Steven Armstrong. She was always cooking giant chocolate chip cookies for Steven and chocolate pies for Stefanie. Her Mac N Cheese and Fried Chicken were a family favorite. Many holiday dinners were spent around her table with all members of the family. She loved spending time with family especially her sisters Sheridan Scott and Deloris Jones. They were “The Three Amigos”
The last nine years she has called “The Woodlands” home. Spending her days talking with the other ladies in her group, and draining the coffee pot. You never saw her, that she did not have a cup of coffee with her. She enjoyed playing Bingo and would hide her favorite cards in her walker, so that nobody would get them. That was way she was always winning and had a large collection of cookies and candies.
Vilene was preceded in death by her husband Vernon, a granddaughter Stefanie Lynn, her parents Carroll and Viola Horton, a brother Jene Carroll Horton and her sister Deloris Horton Jones.
Vilene is survived by her son Johnny Wayne Armstrong and wife Tamie of Amarillo Texas, her grandson Steven Armstrong of Amarillo Texas, her sister Sheridan Scott of Eastland Texas and numerous nephews, nieces, their spouses, and children.
Graveside service will be held 2:00 pm on Friday May 9th at Merriman Cemetery Ranger, Texas with Tim Dame officiating.
The family would like to thank “The Woodland’s” for their care and support for Vilene in the last nine years and Molly, with the Kinder Hearts Hospice. Thank you to Sheridan and all her family for always being there for her and bringing joy to her days.
