Extremely gusty west to southwest winds up to 65 mph and very low humidity will result in dangerous fire weather conditions Friday afternoon and evening. Overview
β Exceptionally dangerous fire weather conditions and high winds will develop on Friday.
β Sustained winds near 25-40 mph with frequent gusts above 50 mph are expected beginning Friday morning through the afternoon.
β A High Wind Watch is in effect for areas that are expected to see occasional gusts near or above 60 mph.
β An upgrade to a High Wind Warning for some or all of the watch area is anticipated this afternoon.
β Non-thunderstorm wind damage will be possible in any areas that see gusts near 60 mph or greater, including (but not limited to) downed trees and power lines.
β Very low humidity near 10-15% will develop early Friday afternoon. Isolated areas may dip just below 10%.
β The very low humidity, extremely gusty winds, and dry fuels will result in a critical to extreme wildfire threat, with the most significant threat across western North and Central Texas.
β Extreme wildfire threats are rare. They are reserved for days that have exceptionally low humidity, very strong winds, and readily available fuels that produce conditions favorable for extreme wildfire behavior.
β A Fire Weather Watch is in effect for Friday.
β An upgrade to a Red Flag Warning for some or all of the watch area is anticipated this afternoon.
β Poor humidity recovery is expected Friday night into Saturday morning, with maximum relative humidity values only around 30-40% for most areas.
β Elevated to critical fire weather will continue Saturday particularly across Central Texas.
