7th Annual Rip’s Ribs Cook Off

EASTLAND, TX – With over 60 cooking spots available, the downtown square in Eastland will be smoke filled Saturday, April 13th for the 7th Annual Rip’s Ribs Cook Off. Kicking off at 9 A.M. with a mandatory cook’s meeting the event runs through the day ending up at 5:30 p.m. when winners are announced. 30 Vendor spots are available ranging from crafts to snow cones will be set up in attendance.

Cooking will begin at 9:15 am and shortly thereafter Jazz Bands will begin playing at the steps of the Eastland Co. This year we will have Abilene High School, Eastland High School, Eastland Pops Ensemble, Howard Payne University, Jim Ned High School, Life High School Waxahachie, Stephenville High School, Tarleton State University, and Wylie High School.

This year the optional are Appetizers, Beans, Desserts, and Meats these are $10 each to enter or $30 for all four events. 1st place winners receive the entire pot for that category! Judging for these will be held at the First Christian Church Annex Building the following times: Appetizers 12:00 pm, Beans 1:00 pm, Desserts 2:00 pm, and Meats 3:00 pm.

Judging of the St. Louis Style pork ribs will begin at 4 p.m. by the Celebrity Judges selecting the top 5 entries for cash prizes with grand prize of $1,000. Other winning teams will be awarded prizes of $750, $500, $250, and $150 along with a trophy.

Additionally, we will be hosting the first State Sanctioned Cornhole Tournament in downtown Eastland with the Texas Cornhole League. This is a Doubles Regional Event with winnings of 1st place – $500, 2nd place – $250, 3rd place $100 and plaques for all 3. It is $40 a team entry fee. Registration and boards open up at 12:00 noon on the West side of Commerce Street.

The first Wine Festival will also be held in Eastland inside the Lyric Theatre at 107 S. Lamar Street from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Pre-Sale tickets are $15 for 10 tastings and $20 at the door. Doc Rockin’ Band and Ariel Hutchins will be playing during the Wine Festival. At this time, we have Spirit of Texas Winery, Willow Creek Winery, D’Vine Wine, Hook & Ladder Winery, Bluff Dale Winery, Blue Duck Winery, Rancho Lama Vineyards, Lucky Vines Vineyard & Winery.

Also happening on April 13th World Record Attempt by Bryan Jackson! Pre-show to begin at 8:30 am and attempt at 10:00 am. The 10 mile wheelie at 10 mph starts in downtown Eastland and ends in Cisco.
