Eastland County’s newly appointed sheriff, Jason Weger, sent out the following introduction to the citizens of Eastland County:
I am very humbled with the outpouring of support from the community and I thank you. For those of you that don’t know me, I wanted to take a moment and tell you a little about myself. I’ve lived in Eastland County and served this community in one capacity or another for 25 years. My wife and I have been married for 22 years. We raised our son here and are deeply involved in the community. This is our home and it will stay that way.
I don’t do well on talking about myself and things that I’ve accomplished. It’s not about me and never has been. But I’m very proud of things that I’ve been able to help with. I very proud of the countless people I’ve been able to help and serve here. I’m not a politician, I’m just a guy that thinks everyone should be treated fairly because we are all in this together. My trust is in God and that His will has been and will be in the decisions made in my life. I’ve tried to do good things because I believe that’s what He planned for us to do and I know that will continue as long as I trust in Him. I plan to run for election in 2022, 2024 and beyond to keep the Sheriff’s office stable and an office you can count on for support and help. There are a million things that can be said about my experience in each one of the positions I’ve held and the number of hours, dedication, and people it takes to make those organizations work, but here’s a very brief synopsis of where I’m coming from and where I’m headed. I’m excited! God bless.
I have over 25 years of experience as a police officer. I’ve been tasked with rebuilding departments from the ground up and had great success. For over 8 years now, I have also been commissioned with the 91st District Attorney’s office where I am a liaison with other law enforcement agencies in the county and assist them with case preparation and investigations for submittal to the Grand Jury. I also assist other departments with state and federal compliance matters.
For over a year now, I’ve also been serving as the Eastland County Cooperative Dispatch administrator. So far, I’ve obtained over $200k in grants and reimbursements in first year.
