James Travis Harrell of Eastland

James Travis Harrell, 87, of Eastland passed away Tuesday March 22, 2011 in Eastland. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the Eastland City Cemetery with Dr. Chauncey Nealey officiating. The family will receive friends at Edwards Funeral home Wednesday from 6 until 8:00 P.M.

Mr. Harrell was born on November 25, 1923 in Eastland to B. Orvel Harrell and Sarah Hair Harrell. He graduated from Eastland High School in 1941. He married Gertrude Daffern on June 6, 1953 in Eastland. He was a life-long resident of Eastland except when he served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII and the Korean Conflict where he was a Staff SGT. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over4 34 years. His biggest joys in life were giving to his wife and son and traveling to Colorado. His wife of 52 years, Gertrude, preceded him in death in 2005. He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Justin Dean Harrell in 1977; 1 brother; and 3 sisters.

Survivors include a son, Rick Harrell & wife Allyson of Fort Worth; 2 granddaughters, LaDonna of Amarillo and Ashley of Fort Worth; and 2 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces, Teresa Dudley of Saginaw, Gaila Arthur of Fort Worth and Eleaine Johnson of Aledo; 2 nephews, Jack Daffern & wife Arlinda of Fredricksburg and Steve Daffern of Mobile, Alabama; and 1 brother-in-law, Jack Daffern & wife Ruth of Victoria.

Travis was precious,the sweetest thing to his wife Gertrude. I did her hair every week at the nursing home and she was adorable as well. We shared several laughs and good times.You are very blessed to have been their children.
