Winona L. Payne, age 82, went to dance with the angels on Monday, January 23, 2012. She was at home in Burleson, Texas with her family by her side. Memorial service was held Thursday, January 26 at 10:00 am at the Mountain Top Church in Cisco, Texas with Pastor Scott Rasco officiating.
Born to Loraine and Alice Holt in San Francisco, California on April 29, 1929. She lived and raised her children in Weed, California until 1983, when she moved to Cisco, Texas, then moving to Burleson, Texas, to live with her Daughter Teresa shortly before her death.
She worked for a short time at Lockheed Martin in California during the fifties, but mostly she was a Mother and Homemaker. She worked as a teachers aid in Weed California from 1970 to 1983, when she moved to Cisco, Texas and was the director of the Cisco Child Care Center until it closed. She continued to provide child care at her home for several more years until she retired. She was a member of the Cisco Mountain Top Church.
Ms. Payne is survived by four children. Steve Cozart and wife Linda of Cisco, Texas., Rick Payne and wife Dianne of Cisco, Texas., Paul Payne and wife Jeana of Weed, California., and Teresa Greer and husband Clark of Burleson, Texas. Eighteen Grandchildren: Wade, Kelly, and Christy of Steve and Linda. Deena, Courtney, Robby, Patrick, Nikki, and Rowdy of Rick and Dianne. Tabatha, LeAdrea, and DeAnna of Paul and Jeana. Sara, Vanessa, Logan, Nathan, Matthew, and Andrea of Teresa and Clark. She is also survived by 19 Great Grandchildren and Niece Pati Grevelding along with many others who loved her dearly.
