Thursday, February 8th at the River of Life Church, four of the five candidates running for Eastland County Judge faced off in a debate. Candidate Ken Knowles was unable to attend due to a medical appointment.

Tuesday, March 6, 2018 is election day for the Republican and Democratic primaries.  Early voting runs Tuesday, February 10 – Friday, March 2, 2018.

Part 1:  Opening remarks.


Part 2:
The commissioner’s court develops and implements the county budget and supervises county employees. What financial and personnel management experience do you possess for performing such duties?

The county budget has steadily increased over the last five years while county population has actually shown a decrease. What is your assessment of the county government’s financial practices?


Part 3:
What is your assessment of the county government’s current role related to law enforcement and fire protection in the county and do you have any ideas for improvements in those areas?

You are a candidate in the Republican Party Primary election. Do you support the tenets and principals of the Texas Republican Party platform, and if so, how?

How has the large growth in property tax appraisals impacted the county government’s budget?

James King makes one more statement on the tax appraisals issue.

There has been much talk about unfunded State mandates pushing county expenditures upward. Is that a valid argument and if so, what do you plan to do on behalf of Eastland County taxpayers to push back against such mandates?

What strategies do you plan to implement to increase the efficiency and cost effectiveness of county government?

In county facilities, will you protect the privacy and safety of women and children by maintaining restrooms, bathrooms and changing rooms that correspond to the person’s sex apparent at birth?
