Rodney Wayne Blackwell passed peacefully from this world at his home at 9:35 p.m. Saturday, August 4, surrounded by his entire family.
Blackwell was born February 15, 1939 in Ranger, Texas to Eva James and J.G. Blackwell. He attended Sundown Public Schools in Sundown, Texas, then Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University) in Lubbock, graduating in 1963. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. Blackwell married Peggy Landers August 27, 1962.
Blackwell’s career included working at Mid-Continent Supply in Odessa, Pet Milk of Odessa, Proctor & Gamble in Odessa, Acme Brick of Abilene and Gulf Pipeline Company in Odessa, Colorado City and New Orleans (merged into Chevron Pipeline Company). He retired from Chevron Pipeline Co, New Orleans Division in 1996 and moved to Temple.
Blackwell is survived by his wife Peggy, his son and daughter-in-law James and Lilah Blackwell of Montgomery and his daughter and son-in-law Traci and Max Newman of Temple. Blackwell is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Collin Mayo and wife Carissa of Temple, Jason Mayo of West Point, New York, Colton Mayo of Temple, Rheagan Blackwell of Waco, Roxanne Blackwell of Montgomery and step-grandsons Jarrod Newman and wife Lindsay of Temple, Derek Newman of Temple and great granddaughter Valon Mayo of Temple. Blackwell also leaves behind sisters Shirley Blackburn of Abilene, Judy Harrison of Potosi, Gloria Dunaway and sister-in-law and husband Ray of Richland Hills, Texas, along with all his special nieces and nephews, their families and his many friends.
Services will be officiated by longtime family friend Rick Robinson of Brenham, at Edwards Funeral Home in Ranger. Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday. Edwards Funeral Home Chapel services will be at10:00 a.m. with interment following immediately afterward at Alameda Cemetery, south of Ranger.
