Cisco College and McMurry Theater are pleased to invite the public to attend a special production of “Women in Congress” on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. The performance will take place at the Crawford Theater, 710 N. Highway 6, Cisco, Tx. 76437.
Directed by McMurry Theater Professor David Ainsworth, “Women in Congress” is Jules Tasca’s modernized version of Aristophanes’ ancient comic masterpiece, Ecclesiazusae. Using the improbable “happy idea” that the women of ancient Athens could actually take over the government through a clever trick, Aristophanes takes aim at his two favorite targets: civic corruption and utopian philosophy. Mr. Tasca’s brilliant modernization of one of the earliest social satires of the western world reveals that 392 B.C. and the twenty-first century are not so far apart in thought, feeling and risibility as might be supposed, and that Aristophanes and the ancient audiences that he entertained are our long lost relatives.
Tickets are $10 at the door or $5 for Cisco College students, faculty and staff. For additional information please visit www.cisco.edu.
