Luther James “Bugs” Fambro of Strawn

RANGER – Luther James “Bugs” Fambro, 86, of Strawn, passed away Monday, April 25, 2011 in Stephenville. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Ranger with Rev. Ronny Guess and Rev. Gary Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Wayland Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Edwards Funeral Home in Ranger on Thursday from 6 until 8:00 P.M.

Mr. Fambro was born on February 4, 1925 in the Wayland Community, in Stephens County, to Truman Fambro and Chloe Clementine Sikes. He attended school in Wayland, graduating from Breckenridge High School and the University of North Texas where he was in the UNT Hall of Fame. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He married Nancy Acker on August 11, 1948 in Greenville, TX. He coached football in Jacksboro, Arlington High and Highland Park High School. He was a rancher from 1971 until the present time. He was a member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Ranger and was on the Board of Regents at Ranger College. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Fambro and a brother, Jack Fambro of Breckenridge.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Fambro of Strawn; 3 sons, Rick Fambro and his wife Jane of Dallas, Randy Fambro and his wife Judy of Strawn and Ray Fambro of Strawn; a daughter, Carol Blackburn and her husband Brad of St. Paul Alberta, Canada; a brother, E.P. “Skeet” Fambro and his wife Rosemary of Strawn; grandchildren, Tiffany Stanzel, Josh, Zack and Marcy Fambro, Justin, Emily & Luke Blackburn; great-grandchildren, Emily Claire, Andrew, Ella Marie and Lilly Anna Stanzel, Conner and Brady Luther Blackburn of St. Paul, Alberta, Canada, and Cutter Fambro.

Memorials may be given to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn St, Dallas, TX 75219-3993 or to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174-0001.
