Lifelong Eastland County Resident Celebrating 90th Birthday

nannieby Zac Darr

Hazel Collins, who has been a resident of Eastland County her entire life, will turn 90 in August. Family and friends are planning an exceptional party in honor of the birthday girl.

Hazel was born in 1928, at her mom and dad’s house in Gorman. She graduated from Gorman High School at the age of 17 and married W.R. Collins at 18. Then, after having three daughters, she moved to a new home they built in 1972, at Airport Acres in Eastland.

Hazel got to know many people working in Eastland, which included working at Hollywood Vassarette for 14 years and working at the Eastland Drug Store for 40 years, where those who know remembers her famous chicken-salad sandwiches and milkshakes. And, if you ask her, she might give you her recipe for the best-ever banana pudding.

Having a job is one thing, but serving the community is something she loves to do. Hazel faithfully served in playing the piano for Bethel Baptist Church for 20+ years and volunteering at the Majestic Theater for 15+ years.

She loves God and is truly a great and wonderful representative of Eastland and Eastland County.

EVERYONE is invited and encouraged to attend this public party in her honor, at the River of Life Church, Youth Complex on Saturday, August 18. The “come and go” party, will happen at 2:00-4:00 PM, with the singing of “Happy Birthday” to the birthday girl at 2:30 PM. Lots of food and drinks will be served. No gifts please, but hand-written cards are encouraged!
