Many citizens are being misinformed in regards to the removal of trees and tree limbs damaged during the ice storm that moved through the area last week. According to some residents the “tree services” doing business within the city are informing them the city will pick up limbs and tree debris left curbside. This is not true. The City of Eastland does not pick up any items left curbside, including brush, trees, etc.
“The City of Eastland, through our solid waste contractor Progressive Waste, offers curbside bulk item pick-ups twice monthly for residential customers only,” said Eastland City Manager Ron Duncan, “but there are requirements in order to take advantage of this service.”
The procedures for using the Bulk Pick Up services in regards to brush require residential customers of the City to cut the limbs into 4 feet or less length, and tie them in bundles of 50 pounds or less. The resident (with a valid utility account with the City of Eastland) must call Eastland City Hall (254-629-8321) no less than 24 hours in advance of the 1st or 3rd Friday pick up dates to be placed on the list. Progressive Waste will not pick up items left curbside not on the required list.
The City of Eastland also offers a drop off location for residential customers to take their own brush. The City Convenience Center, located at the intersection of South Halbryan and East Valley streets (Entry is on E Valley) is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. until 12 noon, BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Residents (with valid City utility account) wishing to drop items at the Convenience Center must call City Hall (2540629-8321) at least 24 hours in advance to schedule an appointment. The Convenience Center will not accept brush, etc. from commercial tree trimming companies.
For more information, or to schedule a Bulk Pick-Up or Convenience Center appointment, call Eastland City Hall at 254-629-8321 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
