The wonderful thing about parades in Gordon, Texas is that you get to stand in one spot and view both sides of the parade. Because typically there aren’t all that many entries in these very small towns, the parade comes through in one direction, makes a loop and comes back through going the other direction. This also allows the chronically late to catch the entire parade even if they are 10 minutes late.
The City of Gordon sponsored this year’s July 4th activities with the fire department and volunteers helping to organize and run the events. The parade started off the evening followed by free hot dogs in the park, live music and dancing at the fire hall and fireworks after dark.
The parade continues to be better attended each year and the parade entries are increasing. Who knows.. it may just be a matter of time before they have so many entries that they won’t have time to do the turn around.
