UPDATED January 23, 2018:
Saturday morning, January 20th at 6:35 a.m. an 11-year-old was killed in a vehicle accident as traffic was stopping for an earlier accident. The accident occurred 2 miles east of Cisco on I-20.
Abraham Gonzalez, 38, of Abilene, the driver of a 2001 Toyota Sequoia was slowing/stopped on I-20 due to an earlier accident of an overturned car hauler that was blocking the highway. A 2001 Pierce fire truck being driven out of state after sale, struck the Toyota from behind. The Toyota veered into the south ditch and caught on fire. The fire truck went into the center median.
Abraham Gonzalez was transported to Eastland Memorial Hospital with non-incapacitating/stable injuries. Two passengers were in the Toyota. Debra Gonzalez, female, 27, of Abilene, was transported to Eastland Memorial Hospital with non-incapacitating/stable injuries. 11-year-old Isaiah Gonzalez of Abilene was pronounced dead at Eastland Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the fire truck, Adam Glen Shankles, 29, of Albuquerque NM, was transported to Eastland Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.
The crash is under investigation.
Original Article January 20, 2018: DPS is investigating a crash that resulted in a fatality this morning on I-20 in Eastland County.
Sometime before 7 a.m. January 20th, a loaded car hauler traveling east overturned blocking the eastbound lanes of I-20 at the 335 mm about 2 miles west of Spur 490. According to a DPS report, an eastbound SUV stopped due to the blocked roadway. Shortly after, another eastbound vehicle crashed into the rear of the SUV resulting in the death of one occupant. Two other occupants of the SUV were transported to Eastland Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.
