Eastland Police Department Report: On January 10, 2018 there was a report of a house fire in the 200 block of South Connellee of Eastland. Officer Kolton Preston and Officer Kevin Willis were the first to arrive on scene. Once there, they observed there was a fire on the front porch. The officers observed there were still people in the house. The officers entered the residence to extract the people. While in there, the living room and front bedroom became engulfed in fire and began spreading rapidly and the house became filled with smoke. The officers realized that the house did not have a back door. One of the residents ran out on their own while Officer Preston rushed a disabled man in a wheelchair through the fire and out the front door. Officer Willis then led the two remaining residents through the fire and out the front door. The residents sustained minor burns. Officer Preston sustained burns and smoke inhalation and was treated at Eastland Memorial Hospital and later released. The Eastland Police Department would like to commend Officer Preston and Officer Willis for their courageous actions in saving the residents.
