Thursday night in AT&T Stadium, the Cisco Loboes ended their season as the undefeated 2A Division II State Champions, defeating Refugio 56 to 36.
Most of the first half of the game was a tag-you’re-it game with the score see-sawing back and forth keeping it anyone’s game. Cisco went into halftime just one touchdown ahead. During the second half of the game, however, the Loboes took command of the game leaving the Refugio Bobcats to wonder what happened.
The Bobcats were first to score early in the first quarter putting Cisco down 7-0.
With 3:52 left in the first quarter, Cisco answered back with a 50 yard pass from Colton Kent to Mason Reed for a touchdown and extra point kick made by Landen Lewis. The game was tied at 7, but not for long.
Another touchdown by Colten Kent and extra point by Landen Lewis put the Loboes ahead 14-7.
Refugio’s Travis Quintanilla threw a 74-yd touchdown pass to Tyler Castellano with the extra point kick made by Adolfo Cordero tying up the game at 14 with 1:20 left in the 1st quarter.
During the 2nd quarter, Cisco’s Colten Kent threw a 73-yard touchdown pass to Kotie Hoover with the successful extra point kick by Landen Lewis, putting Cisco ahead 21-14.
With 3:12 left in the half, the momentum really started moving in Cisco’s direction with Mason Reed’s 95-yard run for a touchdown and another successful extra point by Lewis giving Cisco a two touchdown lead of 28-14.
Refugio’s touchdown and extra point with just :16 left in the half made the halftime score 28-21.
The second half of the game, however was dominated by Cisco. Back-to-back touchdowns starting off the third quarter put a little padding in the score for Cisco.
Colten Kent started off the half with a 63- yard run and Lewis added another extra point, pushing Cisco’s lead to 35-21.
Cisco’s Lewis implements a successful on-side kickoff which is recovered by Cisco.
The Loboes take advantage of the situation. A 45-yard pass to Reed from Kent and extra point by Lewis with 10:51 left in the 3rd quarter puts Cisco ahead 42-21.
Isaiah Perez makes the only touchdown Refugio scores in the 3rd quarter with 9:14 left in the 3rd, leaving Refugio still playing catch up, 42-28.
Cisco has another successful drive with Lewis making the touch down and successful extra point attempt with 7:06 left in the 3rd, increasing Cisco’s lead to 49-28.
With a little over five minutes left in the 3rd quarter, Cisco’s Cole Scott intercepts a Quintanilla pass.
Cisco continues it’s domination with a Colton Kent pass to Kotie Hoover for 40 yards and another touchdown on the board, putting Cisco ahead 56 to 28 with 2:35 left in the 3rd quarter.
The last touchdown of the game was made by Refugio at the beginning of the 4th quarter with a successful 1st and goal pass to Castellano.
The final score: Cisco 56, Refugio 36
