An altercation between two men lands one of them in Eastland Memorial Hospital, and the other in jail. Eastland Police Chief Cecil Funderburgh stated that late Sunday night, the two men got into it in the 700 block of South Connellee. Details are sketchy about the nature of the argument. The man hospitalized suffered some abrasions to the head, said Funderburgh.

Crimestoppers Elect New Coordinator

The Eastland County Crimestoppers has a new coordinator. After many years of service, Cecil Funderburgh is stepping down to hand the Crimestoppers responsibilities to longtime Easland Police Office Ray Russell. Russell has been employed with the Eastland PD since 2002. The Eastland County Crimestoppers started in 1988, which has been instrumental in solving felony cases across the county. Crimestoppers will pay up to $1000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of a felony subject. They never ask for a name.

(AUSTIN) — Shoppers will save more than ever before during the annual sales tax holiday — which now includes more than two dozen school supply items in addition to clothing and backpacks. Families will save an estimated $65.7 million in state and local sales taxes, Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said today.The annual sales tax holiday weekend is coming up Aug. 21–23. State law designates the weekend of the third Friday in August for the sales tax holiday “Most families are on tight budgets and it can be a real challenge to buy kids the clothes and supplies they need for a new school year,” Combs said.; “To help out, the Legislature has added many school supplies to the list of tax-free items during the sales tax holiday.; The tax break on school supplies alone will save families nearly $9 million in state and local sales taxes this year.”The sales tax holiday covers school supplies, school backpacks and most children’s and adults’ clothing and shoes priced less than $100.; Lists of tax-free clothing and school supplies can be found at www.txtaxholiday.org The annual August tax-free shopping spree has saved shoppers around $442 million since it began in 1999.

Gas Prices Steady

The price of gasoline is holding steady, according to the latest survey from www.texasgasprices.com. Last week, self service unleaded fuel spiked a dime to an average of $2.50. TGP reports the same this week. Overall, prices have come up less than a quarter from less than a month ago. The lowest price of fuel observed in Eastland County is $2.46, down a couple of pennies from last week.
