Come to downtown Eastland on Monday, July 4th, for a fun-filled day! There will be free hot dogs, free water, and free jump houses for the kids.
The day will kick off at 9:00 AM on the south side of the Courthouse with Eastland Fire Department raising the stars and stripes to the beat of our National Anthem, immediately followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag.
Patriotic music and the sound of kids having a great time on the jump houses will fill the air all day. Also, kids, be sure to join in the Parade! It’s free, too!
At 9:45, we will gather on the parking lot behind Victor Cornelius Company / AlphaGraphics at the corner of Commerce and Green Streets. All the participants in the parade need to be ready for the judging of entries at 9:50AM, and then the parade will start at 10 o’clock sharp. This will be a fairly short parade, as it will include young children walking, riding bikes, pulling wagons, and driving their battery-operated toy vehicles. All motorized vehicles will be up front, ahead of the kids, and no animals will be allowed, with the exception of pets on a leash. The parade will go east on Commerce from the parking lot, turn south on Lamar, and end on the Coats Furniture / First Baptist Church parking lot at Lamar and Olive. Parade Route
Parade participants will be judged on costumes and decoration of their parade entry. There is no cost to enter the parade, and everyone is invited to join in on the fun! The Boy Scout Troop #103 Color Guard will lead the parade, and Veterans of Foreign Wars will be present with their flags, as will the Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion float from Cross Plains. It’s for kids of all ages… from 2 to 102 years of age! Prizes will be awarded to the best bicycle entry, the best wagon entry, best battery-powered toy vehicle, the best patriotic costume, and the best age 3-6 entry, so break out your red, white and blue and enter the parade contest! You have to participate in the parade to be eligible for the parade prizes. Dress up your pet in red, white, and blue and bring them along on a leash for the parade.
Immediately following the parade, you can visit the various booths that will be set up around the Square and listen to the patriotic music. There will be regular arts & crafts vendors as well as sno-cones and lots of other goodies. If you have a question about the celebration, just contact the Chamber at 254-629-2332 or by email at email@example.com. You can always find out about Chamber events by going to www.eastlandchamber.com/events-calendar.
At noon, we’ll judge the home-made ice cream to see who makes the very BEST! It costs NOTHING to enter your ice cream in the contest, but the winner will go home with $100.00! Second place winner will get $60, and third place will take a $40 prize. The winners will be announced immediately following the judging.
At 1PM, we’ll judge the pies and/or cobblers. The entry fee is the same as for ice cream (FREE), and the prizes are the same, as well. How to enter the ice cream or pie contest? It’s easy! At noon, bring your ice cream entry to the south steps of the Courthouse. Be sure that you have enough ice cream for six judges to sample, and then share the rest with the crowd! To enter the pie / cobbler contest, just bring your entry to the south steps of the Courthouse at 1PM. Again, there has to be enough pie or cobbler for six judges to sample, and the remainder will be shared with the crowd.
We’re going to be celebrating an old-fashion 4th of July in Eastland, and you are cordially invited… not only to attend, but to participate in the festivities. You’ll hear lots of John Philip Sousa marches and other patriotic music, along with patriotic speeches. And be sure to go out to Lake Leon that evening to watch the fireworks display at La Mancha Lake Ranch.
C’mon down and have a hot dog and a bottle of ice-cold water with us and celebrate the 240th birthday of the greatest Nation this world has ever known! Happy Birthday, America! God Bless the USA! Proud to be an American!
