3 EHS Band Members Make All State Band

Victor Mendoza, Karley Simmons, Cody Hutcheson, Band Director Terry Everts, and Senjin Thayer

The Eastland Band has 3 more All State Band members as of Saturday.

On Saturday January 7th, Eastland High School Band members Victor Mendoza on Oboe, Karley Simmons, Cody Hutcheson, and Senjin Thayer on French Horn auditioned for the All State Band.  There were students from schools representing 5 different regions competing for all state honors.  There were 20 horn players competing for 4 spots. Karley, Senjin, and Cody swept 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places respectively in the French Horn section.  Victor in his first time to audition at the Area level placed 7th.  This now makes 4 All State band members from Eastland High School  for this year as Raleigh Darnell had already secured 1st chair in the All State Jazz Ensemble.  This is Karleys’ second year to be named to the All State Bands.  Making State once is no easy feat, let alone 2 or more times.  Having 4 all state band members in one year is a new record for EHS.  Congratulations Karley, Senjin, Cody, and Raleigh on earning All State Band Honors!

On February 8th, they will travel to San Antonio and rehearse with one of the two All State Concert Bands and Raleigh with the All State Jazz Band.  The Horn players still have another audition to go to determine which of the two concert bands they will perform with, being either the Symphonic or Concert Band.  The All State Concert Bands will perform a Concert for the Texas Music Educators Association Conference on February 11th at 9:30 am in the Lila Cockrell Theater. and the ATSSB All State Jazz Ensemble will perform at 1:00 pm in the Ballroom B of the San Antonio Convention and Conference Center.
